With the offseason underway, TheHoosier.com will review each IU player's 2016-17 season.

We continue the series with a look at senior forward Collin Hartman.

Stats

Did not accumulate any stats after sustaining a season-ending knee injury during in practice last September.

Season In Review

It's safe to say last season did not go as planned for Hartman.

The Indianapolis Cathedral product suffered a season-ending knee injury last September which sidelined him for the remainder of the year. However, he was able to participated in limited fashion in the Hoosier Hysteria 3-point contest in October.

Despite being sidelined the entire year, Hartman tried to make the most of it. By all accounts, he was a constant vocal presence on the bench and in practice, trying to provide as much instruction as he possibly could to his teammates without physically being on the court.

There was constant speculation about Hartman's future beyond the 2016-17 season. He would be completing his master's degree in May, and he also got engaged on senior night. But, on March 30, he surprised almost everyone by announcing via Twitter his return for a fifth-year senior season.

Outlook

In 2017, Hartman will bring leadership and experience to a team that sorely lacked it without him on the court last season.

Should James Blackmon Jr. and Robert Johnson opt to return to school and withdraw from NBA Draft consideration, Hartman would be one of five seniors on next year's roster after being the lone one on last year's.

"We are thrilled that Collin has decided to come back and play next season," Miller said in a statement on March 30. "Having an individual who has won a Big Ten championship and had success in the NCAA Tournament gives our program a big lift. He brings leadership and intangibles that can do nothing but help us achieve our goals."

It wouldn't be surprising to see Hartman get a nod in the starting lineup next year, but even if he isn't, he'll still be a key part of next year's Hoosiers squad.
