Postseason Player Review: Grant Gelon
With the offseason underway, TheHoosier.com will review each IU player's 2016-17 season.
We continue the series with a look at freshman guard Grant Gelon.
Stats
Averaged 1.8 points and 0.4 rebounds in 3.2 minutes per game ... Shot 7 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range ... Played in 12 of Indiana's 34 games last season.
Season In Review
Gelon came off the bench in all 12 games last year and wasn't used very often. The majority of his 39 total minutes played came during Indiana's nonconference slate, and the only time he earned clock in Big Ten play was when the Hoosiers were already trailing late in the game.
Against Michigan, Gelon scored a career-high eight points. He played in two more Big Ten games after that, receiving zero playing time in the Big Ten tournament and the NIT game against Georiga Tech.
Outlook
It's hard to see Gelon's role changing. He's a shooter who can provide scoring off the bench, but that didn't create enough value for him to earn a spot in Big Ten play when the competition got stiffer. That will especially be the case if either James Blackmon Jr. or Robert Johnson return.
