Tom Allen Finalizes Staff, No Further Changes Coming
Indiana football's coaching staff is in place.
IU head coach Tom Allen said that he doesn't expect any further changes to his coaching staff while formally announcing the additions of offensive coordinator Mike DeBord, quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson and receivers coach Grant Heard.
Offensive line coach Greg Frey and running backs coach Deland McCullough, who were both hired by former IU head coach Kevin Wilson, will remain in their current positions.
Defensively, all of the staff will remain in place. Allen will continue to call the defense with William Inge coaching linebackers, Noah Joseph coaching safeties, Brandon Shelby coaching cornerbacks and Mark Hagen coaching the defensive line.
"These will be the nine full-time guys that we have retained or selected that will be the nine we'll carry forward into the spring and into the fall of 2017," Allen said. "We'll have a few off-the-field positions that you traditionally have to fill, but these will be our full-time guys."
Allen announced his new hires while sitting alongside them within Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall before Indiana's basketball game against Illinois. As each of them shared their thoughts and visions for the future, Allen nodded his head in agreement and smiled knowing things were being set into place.
With DeBord and Heard joining from outside programs, Watson being elevated from quality control coach to his new full-time gig and the rest of the staff returning, Allen can move forward into his first offseason as a head coach in Bloomington.
"I couldn't be more pleased and more excited to have these three gentlemen here with us as part of our staff," he said.
