Former IU standout Tanner Thompson is heading to Minnesota where he'll join a former Hoosier teammate as he begins his pro career.

Minnesota United FC drafted Thompson with its first pick in the fourth round (67th overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Earlier this offseason, the club picked up former Hoosier Femi Hollinger-Janzen in the league's expansion draft.

Thompson and Hollinger-Janzen played at Indiana together for three seasons.

Thompson, a native of Loomis, California, was a three-time All-American in Bloomington and will join older brother and former Hoosier Tommy Thompson in the professional ranks. Tommy renewed a contract with the San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday.

According to IU, Tanner Thompson becomes the 45th Hoosier to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft since the league formed in 1996.
