Indiana is off to a terrific start with its 2021 recruiting class. Currently it ranks No. 3 in the country with Khristian Lander and Logan Duncomb. Obviously, Lander will have a decision to make regarding which class he will join, but for now he remains in 2021.

The next two prospects that the Hoosiers have their eyes on are Trey Kaufman and Aminu Mohammed. Both are highly skilled and would address many needs for Indiana, and Mohammed is someone who would thrive in Archie Miller’s system.

There is no question Indiana struggled to score in the halfcourt last season. A lot of it had to do with the lack of individual shot creation from the backcourt. That is where Mohammed’s skillset comes into play.

Mohammed is coming off of his second straight high school season averaging more than 34 points per game for Greenwood Laboratory (Springfield, Mo.).

Indiana does have multiple guards on the roster, but not many true ‘wings’. Mohammed typically plays much bigger than his 6-foot-4 frame and has the perfect skillset to thrive in Indiana’s three-guard attack.

He has highly advanced ball skills that allows him to beat nearly anyone off of the bounce. Combining that with his physical style of play, he is one of the better finishers through contact in the 2021 class. The first thing you see when watching him play is his athletic ability, but more so how smooth and under control he is at all times. He is rarely ever sped up and that body control and fluidity allows him to maneuver his way around defenders at the rim.

Driving and slashing is his best skillset but he still has the ability to score from the perimeter. Despite some inconsistent numbers from three, his stroke is something you can work with. It’s a developing part of his skillset and one that can take his game to the next level.

Mohammed is also one of the best rebounding guards in the 2021 class. He averaged 17.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore and 15.7 as a junior. His tremendous leaping ability and second-jump ability is what makes him so lethal on the offensive and defensive glass.

An underrated part of his game on the offensive end is his passing ability. Though not projected as a true lead guard, his passing and ball handling allow him to play largely on the ball and could be a role that he sees a lot of at the college level.

Defensively, Mohammed would be a dream fit for Indiana. Able to guard and lockdown positions 1-3, his quick first step and hands in combination with his frame is a defensive nightmare for opposing players. He can take chances at times which can put him out of position, but he is largely a true lockdown player on that end of the court.

Overall, Mohammed would be a high-impact player right when he steps on campus. His feel for the game to go along with his athletic ability is why he is such a highly sought-after talent.

Mohammed is ranked the No. 12 prospect in the 2021 class.
