One of the segments during this year's Hoosier Hysteria came as a total surprise to the Indiana men's basketball team.
Unbeknownst to those players, they would receive their 2016 Big Ten championship rings during the event which served as the official tipoff for the upcoming season.
"It caught me off guard, just knowing we were getting the rings today," IU sophomore center Thomas Bryant said. "It felt good to get those rings and see what we've been through over the last year and as we continue to go forward."
One by one, everyone from the coaching staff to the support staff received a championship ring and recognition for their contributions to Indiana's second outright Big Ten title in the last four years.
IU head coach Tom Crean led ceremony and began by recognizing senior forward Collin Hartman, who is recovering from knee surgery underwent in late September.
Crean became emotional talking about Hartman during the ceremony.
"We would not we where we are without Collin Hartman and what he's done for this program," Crean said.
Crean praised each player, concluding the ceremony by recognizing two security staff members who work with the team throughout the season then Director of Player Development Derek Elston.
Indiana sophomore forward OG Anunoby said it meant a lot and that the team was "stunned."
"We didn't know we were going to get these rings," Anunoby said. "But we're glad we did."
