Indiana basketball is on a recruiting tear.
After adding Plymouth (Minn.) Armstrong three-star forward Race Thompson on Sunday, and Pickerington (Ohio) North four-star forward Jerome Hunter on Monday, the Hoosiers picked up a major in-state commitment in four-star forward Damezi Anderson on Monday afternoon.
Anderson said he spoke with the staff about his decision on Monday.
"They were very excited," he said of the IU coaches. "They think it's a great fit for me.
"They're ready to get to work."
The four-star forward chose the Hoosiers over Michigan, Purdue and DePaul among others. He said he spoke with his family and felt IU was the best place for him, so, he decided to go ahead and commit.
Since Hunter also popped for the Hoosiers on Monday, Anderson said they communicated back and forth about their decision.
"We wanted to get on the same page," Anderson said. "We're talking about taking Indiana to a whole nother' level.
"We want to have the right mindset of winning a championship."
Anderson has the skillset to play small forward and maybe shooting guard for the Hoosiers, noting the IU staff sees him playing a couple of spots with his length and shooting ability.
He averaged 24.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game to lead Riley to a 19-3 overall record as a junior. Anderson was named a core junior All-Star and earned honorable mention All-State honors from the Associated Press.
Anderson also averaged 13.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in the two spring live periods for Chicago MeanStreets, playing on Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League circuit.
