Teri Moren and Indiana's remarkable season has earned yet another prestigious honor.

The Associated Press named Moren the National Coach of the Year, the publication announced on Thursday. She earned 12 of 28 votes for the award, with South Carolina's Dawn Staley earning eight, Utah's Lynne Roberts with five, and Virginia Tech's Kenny Brooks with three. The voting concluded before the NCAA Tournament.

Under Moren's leadership, Indiana won its first Big Ten title in 40 seasons – only the second time ever in program history – won 28 games and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever in school history. Moren's program is now amongst the powerhouses in the sport, having been ranked in 75 consecutive weeks in the AP Poll.

Additionally, Moren became the Indiana's winningest head coach in women's basketball history, and surpassed 200 total victories as the Hoosiers' leader. And, Moren was recently named a court coach for the upcoming 2023 USA Basketball Women's U19 World Cup Team.

The program has continued to grow exponentially with Moren's guidance at the helm, and although the 2022-23 season didn't end how the Hoosiers had wanted, they're set up well for success in the future.

Each of Indiana's two freshmen coming in have won their respective state's Gatorade Player of the Year, and despite the loss of Grace Berger, many of Indiana's producers return for another season in the cream and crimson.

"Anytime you can share it with people that made it happen: the staff, the players, the most important people who have been instrumental in the season and this award is special," Moren said as she was surprised by the award by the team. The quote originally appeared in the AP's story of the news break. "I was speechless.”

Moren had mentioned following the heartbreaking second round loss to Miami that she hoped that the loss would sting, but not define the immense greatness of their season.

Now, it has another historical footnote.
