Preseason accolades continue to roll in for Tegray Scales.

The IU senior linebacker was named to the 2017 Bednarik Award watch list Monday morning by the Maxwell Football Club. The award is given annually to college football's best defensive player.

Last month, Scales was one of 42 players named to the LOTT Impact Trophy watch list. That award, which also recognizes a defensive standout, is the first and only college football award, to "equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player," according to its website.

Scales was also recognized as a preseason Second-Team All-American by Athlon Sports, while Street & Smith's tabbed the Cincinnati, Ohio native as a first-team All-American.

Furthermore, SI.com recognized Scales as one of College Football's Top 50 players for the 2017 season, slotting him at No. 49. The same publication also gave him Second Team All-American honors following the 2016 season, becoming the first Hoosier to receive All-American recognition since third-team honoree Van Waiters in 1987.

Scales finished with a nation-leading 93 solo tackles and 23.5 tackles for loss last season, helping the Hoosiers reach the Foster Farms Bowl and back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time in 25 years.

Indiana kicks off its 2017 campaign hosting Ohio State on Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
