The national preseason recognition for Tegray Scales continues.

Athlon Sports on Tuesday named the IU senior linebacker a second team All-American. It's Scales' second All-American recognition ahead of the 2017 season, as Street & Smith's also tabbed the Cincinnati, Ohio native as a first-team All-American.

The Colerain High School product was the lone Hoosier nominated and one of 19 total Big Ten players recognized as an All-American by Athlon.

Scales finished with a nation-leading 93 solo tackles and 23.5 tackles for loss last season, helping the Hoosiers reach the Foster Farms Bowl and back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time in 25 years. He earned second team All-America recognition from SI.com last season following his productive junior season, becoming the first Hoosier to collect All-American honors since Van Waiters in 1987.

Scales and the Hoosiers open the 2017 season at home Thursday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN against Ohio State.
