tonight on his twitter account. He becomes Indiana's 17th commitment from the
senior class.
"Now a Indiana Hoosier" is what Smith tweeted earlier tonight and he changed
his twitter account status to say "#3 OLB at Flowery Branch, Indiana commit
#Hoosiers."
The Flowery Branch, Georgia native made his official visit to Indiana over
the weekend. It was his second trip to Bloomington.
"I made a trip there early in the summer in June," Smith told Peegs.com in
September. "Before I made a visit with my parents I didn't know anything about
Indiana, but when we went there I was surprised by how the nice campus is. Their
facilities and everything there is much nicer in person than what you can see on
the internet when you research them. I also liked the college town atmosphere
they have. The coaches recruiting me, Coach (Mike) Ekeler and Coach (Jon) Fabris,
were real nice to me and they were with me the whole time I was up there. They
showed me everything from the academic buildings to the football facilities. I
felt a good camaraderie with the coaches."
Fabris is coach of the Indiana defensive ends and knows the state of Georgia
well after spending nine years on the University of Georgia staff.
Besides Indiana, Smith held offers from Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati,
Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Southern Miss, Central Florida and Colorado State. In
November he narrowed down his recruitment to Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati and
Central Florida.
Coming into his season, Smith told Peegs.com that he sports an impressive 3.9
GPA.
At 6-foot-4 he has the ranginess coaches often like at the outside spot.
"They tell me that they can see me coming in and being a big contributor as a
freshman if I work hard," he said in November about the message from IU. "They
are recruiting me to play the outside linebacker position. They also tell me to
not to stress about recruiting and to just talk about it with my family and just
find the right school for me. They aren't pressuring me to come there. They are
just letting me know that I am welcome to come there."
Peegs.com will have more on this developing story.
