Recruitment:
• Crider reported offers from Buffalo, Darmouth, Illinois State, North Dakota, Virginia and West Virginia, among others.
• Originally committed to Virginia, Crider thought twice of his initial pledge once Indiana started reaching out. Crider committed to play for Virginia at the end of June but visited and received an offer from Indiana in early August. He decommitted from Virginia to commit to Indiana on Aug. 15. Despite Frey leaving the Hoosier program, he remained committed to his in-state school down the closing stretch.
• Will join the program after graduating high school this spring.
Recruiter of record:
Former IU offensive line coach Greg Frey led Crider's recruitment.
Quotable:
“I don’t remember a time when he didn’t play well. I’m serious.”— Columbus East High School coach Bill Gaddis
Scouting report:
• Lighter kid with the ability to put on some weight
• Moves around well, uses speed to his advantage
• Dangerous blocker when he gets down the field to open up space
• Makes mature decisions under pressure
2017 projection:
It's hard to tell just what Indiana is thinking with its offensive line moving forward and Frey out of the picture. The reality is that the Hoosiers are going to need to find a starting center and haven't shied away from playing true freshmen in Brandon Knight and Coy Cronk in the past when the talent was there. However, Crider likely needs to redshirt and put on some weight when he gets on campus.
