The original first member of IU's 2017 recruiting class is back in the fold.

Lilburn (Ga.) Berkmar guard Al Durham had asked for a release from his NLI with Indiana following the departure of previous head coach Tom Crean, but after meeting with new head coach Archie Miller tonight, the senior has decided to stick with the Hoosiers.

"He told me about himself and his style of play and how I would fit in with his style of play," Durham said of the meeting. "How I would develop as a player and it was just smooth-sailing from there.

"He likes me for both sides of the floor. How versatile my offensive game is, I can play on and off the ball and being a point. Basically my skillset fits his style of play very well."

Durham verbally committed to Indiana back on Oct. 26, 2015, a day after he returned home from his campus visit for Hoosier Hysteria. He picked the Hoosiers over early offers from Miami, Virginia Tech and South Florida among others.

Perhaps some of those schools could have been among his new options if Indiana had granted his release. However, Durham is happy now to remain a Hoosier.

"We were able to sit with Archie and hear his plan and how he fit and Al agreed with it," Durham's father, Al Sr., said. "Archie did a great job of recruiting him once he was hired."

The 6-4, 175-pound three-star guard averaged over 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists a game as a senior.

Next he plays in the Derby Classic All-Star scheduled for April 15 at 7 p.m. ET. That's held at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky., and will be televised live on FS2.

Durham said following that game, he starts workouts to prepare for Bloomington.
