Rabjohns joins Peegs.com team
Award-winning sports writer Jeff Rabjohns is joining Peegs.com. A member of
the Indianapolis Star sports staff since 2000, Rabjohns has covered
college basketball, recruiting, AAU, high school basketball and the NBA. He has
covered Super Bowls, Final Fours, NBA All-Star games, Indianapolis 500s and
other major events. His passion, however, is college sports.
"I am thrilled to be joining (site owner) Mike Pegram, who has been an
authority on Indiana University athletics for so many years now, and Rivals.com.
It's an honor to cover Indiana University, which is one of the marquee names in
all of sports and has one of the most passionate fan bases in the country,"
Rabjohns said.
"I think our site has long established itself with our basketball and
football recruiting as well as the innovations we've made in multi-media
coverage through the years, but there's a lot more to covering a big time
program like Indiana," says Pegram. "I think Jeff is going to provide us the
hustling "true journalist" that we've been missing. Then it's a great bonus that
he's experienced with recruiting, prep and NBA and NFL coverage."
Rabjohns joins Pegram and football expert Matt Weaver as the full-time
members of the Peegs.com staff. Recent intern additions include Indiana
journalism grad Daniel Allar for the summer and this fall the team will
supported by veteran IDS reporter Nathan Hart and IU Student Television reporter
Samantha Dewig.
"I hope these hires along with our investment in smartphone apps, HD video,
live web streaming and other moves we have made convince our subscribers and
potential subscribers that we're serious about taking our Indiana coverage to a
new level," said Pegram.
Rabjohns has been honored multiple times by the Indiana Society of
Professional Journalists, The Associated Press, and in 2005 won the Dick Schaap
Excellence in Sports Journalism Award. Rabjohns was the first Star sports writer
to regularly cover college basketball recruiting, and his work has appeared in
the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today.
"With a new coaching staff in football, the Cody Zeller era beginning in
basketball and the nation's No. 1 recruiting class coming in 2012, it's an
exciting time to cover IU athletics," said Rabjohns.
The first official day for Rabjohns at Peegs.com will be July 1st.
