Indiana freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has declared for the NBA Draft and will forgo his remaining college eligibility, per ESPN.
After a stellar debut season in Bloomington that saw Hood-Schifino earn the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award and multiple Big Ten freshman of the week honors, the Pittsburgh, PA native will be turning pro.
Hood-Schifino's potential was really tapped into after Xavier Johnson's Dec. 17 injury against Kansas. After some initial growing pains, the Indiana offense eventually thrived under Hood-Schifino's leadership as an offensive threat and a facilitator.
The highlight of the Montverde academy graduate's career will no doubt be his performance against Purdue in Mackey Arena, when he dropped 35 points on 14-24 shooting, leading the Hoosiers to a 79-71 victory and a sweep of their in-state rival.
Mike Woodson went on a mission to get Hood-Schifino in an Indiana uniform as soon as he got the job at Indiana. His commitment to playing for the first-year head coach marked Woodson's first big commitment in the class of 2022, and first period outside of late class of 2021 commit Tamar Bates.
Hood-Schifino is projected as high as the No. 13 pick and as low as all the way out of the first round into the second.
Whichever team drafts Hood-Schifino will get a high-volume shooter who is also an excellent passer. His ability to get to his spots and score with efficiency really separated him from the pack during his first year.
Indiana will likely look to the portal to replace the loss of production, especially so given the status of Johnson's medical hardship waiver being still up in the air.
