Indiana redshirt sophomore defensive end Madison Norris has entered his name into the transfer portal, a source confirmed with TheHoosier.com on Monday morning.
Norris was a promising athlete coming out of Hamilton Southeastern in the 2018 class, matching impressive speed with a frame that the Hoosier staff hoped would develop into that of a Big Ten defensive end. He won the Indiana state event in the 110-meter hurdles and was a two-time IFCA Super Team selection in football.
He recorded 105 tackles (11 TFLs), two sacks, 22 quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in his last two seasons of high school ball.
Coming into the program at 6-foot-5 and around 200 pounds, Norris could never quite add the weight needed to pay consistently at the Big Ten level, as he packed on just 17 pounds between his arrival and, now, his expected departure from Bloomington under former strength and conditioning coaches David Ballou and Matt Rhea.
Indiana has also added depth the defensive end position, with Carmel standout Beau Robbins expected to get some snaps in 2020, 2019 starting rush-end James Head having two years remaining, the likes of Jonathan King and Jeramy Passmore eating some snaps at defensive end and a massive 2021 defensive end class coming in, the window for Norris to add his weight and get onto the field was getting increasingly smaller.
He finished his career at Indiana with zero tackles and appearances in just two games.
