"I would like to announce that I will be taking my talents to Seton
Hall University," said Whitehead in a packed room this afternoon at
Lincoln High, located in the Coney Island area.
The press conference was streamed live over the MSG Varsity web site.
The No. 14 overall player in the Rivals150 for the senior class chose
the Pirates over Minnesota, St. John's, Indiana and Pittsburgh. Earlier
this week Peegs.com reported that Whitehead was likely to stay near
home and choose between Seton Hall and Big East rival St. John's.
During his press conference, Whitehead confirmed that distance played a
big factor in the end.
"I couldn't leave my mom, so I had to say close," said Whitehead.
Earlier today the New York Post
href="http://nypost.com/2013/09/19/seton-hall-nabs-brooklyn-star-whitehead-sources/">reported
that Lincoln High head coach Dwayne "Tiny" Morton was expected to leave the Brooklyn school to join Ralph Willard's staff at Seton Hall.
"I picked Seton Hall to help bring the program back to where it used to
be," said Whitehead. "I want to set my own path in college like I was
able to separate myself in high school."
