Indiana's defense appears to have lost their leader at linebacker for a considerable amount of time.
According to sources, 5th-year senior linebacker Cam Jones will miss "several weeks' due to a foot injury.
It became apparent that Jones would miss at least some time after he did not dress out for the Hoosiers' matchup against Michigan.
Tom Allen addressed the Jones injury postgame.
"He got hurt during the game last week, so we found out probably on Sunday afternoon," Allen said. "It's going to be several weeks at minimum."
A 3-year team captain, Jones is the unquestioned leader of Indiana's defensive unit. Through five games in 2022, Jones has accumulated 54 total tackles, 3.0 TFL and a sack. He also had a forced fumble versus Western Kentucky and a fumble recovery in the season opener versus Illinois.
Jones' injury comes as a back-breaking blow to an IU defense that's been searching for a way to turn the tide after a string of lackluster performances.
"Just, yeah, you lose your best player. He is not just our leader of our team, he is the leader of our defense," Allen added. "He is playing at a high level. I would consider him playing at an All-American level. Statistically it backs that up.
"It's a big blow any time you lose a guy like that, and he gives us a presence as well."
