There's no question that Indiana’s offense has struggled as of late, especially in the second half. The Hoosier offense hasn't produced in the same way as they once did at the start of the season. Indiana hasn't won a game since Sept. 17 and for two straight weeks, the Hoosiers have been unable to score in the second half leaving them without any sort of offensive rhythm. Indiana currently ranks eleventh in the Big Ten in total offense and is averaging 24.3 points per game.

The issue for the past couple of weeks for Indiana has been a lack of consistency when entering the second half. Against Michigan, the Hoosiers put the Wolverines on notice making it a tie game at halftime. But in the second half, the Indiana offense disappeared. The Hoosiers were only able to earn 29 total yards in the final two quarters against Michigan and It was a similar story when the Hoosiers played Nebraska.

For this week's upcoming game, head coach Tom Allen wants to see the Hoosiers play a complete four quarters.

“To me, it's about consistent execution. I keep saying it because it doesn't change. You can't go through and be effective on either side of the ball without doing the little things correctly. It's the whole group, everybody doing their job.” Allen said.

Protecting the quarterback is one area that the Hoosiers are also looking to polish. Offensive line play has been one of the main areas that has put the Indiana offense on hold but changes have been made since the loss against Michigan. With the recent departure of Darren Hiller, the Hoosiers now have Rod Carey, the new offensive line coach, to lead that unit. So, the hope for better production is set in stone with a new coach.

“Pass protection is not just the offensive line, it's a big part of it, no doubt, but there are other things involved as well. It's our staff, it's our players, our quarterback, it's our receives, it's our running backs, a part of all that, everybody taking ownership of that as a group.” Allen said.

The absence of second half points isn't going to win games for the Hoosiers but Allen is confident in what this team can do.

The Indiana offense led by quarterback Connor Bazelak has shown flashes of what they can be but the Hoosiers are in search of putting it all together.

“You know what you need to do, and you make the adjustments you need to make. At the end of the day, you have to stay the course and continue to fight, demand the little things when it matters the most. We're going to be at our best, like we were early in the season, the finish of those two critical drives we had to have.” Allen said. “To me, that's what the expectation is, what we have to get too. I know our coaches feel that. We're not going to be dissuaded by anything that this is the goal, or objective. We have to stay together, fight together, and get this thing fixed.”

"I think we are still looking to play our best game of football. I think we are due. We have been putting in the work," Bazelak said. "... Playing a full four quarters. We've had games where we've played well in the fourth quarter and won when we had to... limit the negatives plays, create more explosive plays. Just finding a way to do what we do best for longer."

Indiana will play its fourth conference game of the year and welcome Maryland on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 pm EST.
