IU Athletic Director Fred Glass formally introduced Archie Miller as the newest head coach of Indiana basketball at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Monday.

Miller, 38 and turning 39 on Oct. 30, comes to IU after spending the first six seasons of his head coaching career at Dayton. He compiled a 139-63 overall record as the Flyers head coach and took Dayton to the NCAA Tournament each of the last four seasons.

His deepest NCAA Tournament run was his first in 2013-14 when Miller's team reached the NCAA Elite Eight. He followed that up with a trip to the Round of 32 and was then bounced from the Round of 64 each of the last two years.

Miller is the reigning Atlantic 10 and NABC District Coach of the Year. In 2015, he was a finalist for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award. He's also been active with Team USA Basketball, having helped coach the U-19 team to the gold medal at the 2015 FIBA World Championship.

Prior to starting his head coaching career, Miller was an assistant at Arizona (2009-11), Ohio State (2007-09), Arizona State (2006-07), NC State (2004-06) and Western Kentucky (2003-04).

A 5-11 point guard in his playing days, Miller averaged 7.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists from 1998-2002 while playing under Herb Sendek at NC State. He spent five years with the program, playing as a true freshman but then redshirting after three games in what would have been his true sophomore year.

As a senior, Miller helped lead the Wolfpack to a runner-up finish in the ACC Chapionship. He was named to the All-Tournament team that year. Miller finished his career shooting 84.6 percent from the line, and he's continued to preach getting to the free-throw line as a coach, and a 42.9 percent 3-point shooter on 218 career makes.

Miller is no stranger to recruiting in the Midwest while at Dayton and studying under Thad Matta at Ohio State. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as "Ryan Miller" but was called "Archie" at an early age because of a personality similar to Archie Bunker from the 1970s television sitcom "All in the Family."

Miller grew up in a basketball family. His older brother, Sean Miller, was a point guard at Pitt and is currently the head coach at Arizona. Sean is 10 years older than Archie and actually helped recruit Archie to NC State during his playing career. Sean also hired Archie as an assistant at Arizona.

Both Sean and Archie played for their father, John Miller, at Blackhawk High school.

Miller met his wife, Morgan, while attending NC State. She was on the track and field team. They got married in 2003 and have one daughter, Leah Grace.
