Austin King will seek new opportunities at another school.
The IU redshirt sophomore quarterback has decided to transfer out of the program, head coach Tom Allen announced Friday.
"We wish him the very, very best," Allen said. "Fine young man from a good family."
A product of Alpharetta (Ga.) High School, King was part of the Hoosiers' 2015 signing class. He redshirted as a freshman and did not see any action in 2016.
Shortly after Allen's announcement, King released a statement on his decision to pursue other opportunities via Twitter, thanking Allen and IU quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan.
"It saddens me to say that I have decided to leave Indiana University and transfer elsewhere," King wrote. "It was an extremely difficult decision for me considering how much Indiana has done for me over the last two years. The relationships I gained were priceless and I will cherish them forever. I want to thank Coach Allen and Coach Sheridan for giving me the opportunity to play and grow as a player and as a person. I firmly believe Coach Allen is taking the program in the right direction and I wish nothing but success for Indiana this year and years to come. Thank you to everyone who supported me during my time at Indiana, and especially to my teammates who made it an unforgettable experience."
Stringer's playing days over due to injury
Allen also announced Friday that redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Omari Stringer's football playing days were over due to injuries.
However, Stringer will remain with the program as a student assistant.
