IU redshirt senior cornerback Rashard Fant was one of 76 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players nominated by the American Football Coaches Association 2017 Good Works Team watch list, it was announced Monday. Unlike other awards in college football, the 22-member squad - comprised of 11 members from Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) programs, Divisions II, III and the NAIA - will be announced in September.

“The student-athletes nominated for this esteemed award embody the true spirit of teamwork and selflessness, donating their limited free time to helping and serving others,” according to a press release.

Fant was one of 10 Big Ten players named to the list. In total, the AFCA nominated 146 players across each of those divisions.

Fant elected to return to Indiana and use his final year of eligibility to pursue a master's degree in public affairs from IU's School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). SPEA's program tied with Syracuse for best public affairs program in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Additionally, Fant was one of three Hoosiers on the Big Ten's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

"After looking at the bios of the 146 nominees we received for 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, it really shows that there are great football student-athletes all over this country who just don't care what happens between the sidelines, but they also care about their community and giving back to others," AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said in a statement.

Fant and the Hoosiers kick off the 2017 season Aug. 31 hosting Ohio State at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
