A top Class of 2017 high school player in the state of Indiana is switching schools.
Indianapolis Southport four-star guard Paul Scruggs, a 2017 IU target, will transfer from Southport to Prolific Prep in Napa, California, for his senior season, sources told TheHoosier.com. His family is in the process of withdrawing him from Southport today.
The California prep school isn't actually an academic institution. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, players attend separate, pre-existing accrediting schools in the Bay Area. Last season, three of Prolific Prep's players attended Catholic Justin-Siena High, while three others attended public Vintage High.
Scruggs, a 6-3, 200-pound combo guard ranked No. 33 nationally in the Rivals150 for 2017, averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for the Indy Hoosiers AAU program on the Under Armour Circuit.
During his final season at Southport, he was named first team All-State in Indiana by The Associated Press and earned second-team All-Central Indiana honors from the Indianapolis Star following the 2015-16 season. He was also named to the Underclassman Supreme 15 team by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, a distinction awarded to the top 15 underclassman players in the state.
Scruggs averaged 19.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, leading Southport to a 22-7 overall record and Class 4A regional title during his junior campaign.
