Measureables:

• Self-reported a 40-yard dash time of 4.75 seconds and vertical leap of 32.0 inches.

Stats:

• Senior: 67 catches for 896 yards and nine touchdowns.

• Rivals.com: Two stars.

• Scout.com: Three stars, No. 18 tight end nationally, No. 6 tight end in the Midwest and No. 3 tight end in the state.

• 247Sports: Three stars, No. 50 tight end nationally and No. 14 player in the state.

• ESPN: Three stars, No. 21 tight end nationally and No. 13 player in the state.

Honors/accomplishments:

• One of 31 players named to the Indianapolis Star's 2016 preseason Super Team. • Named 2016 Indianapolis Star Mr. Football Position Award Winner for tight end. • Named to the Indianapolis Star’s 2016 postseason Super Team.

Recruitment:

• Reported offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Western Michigan among others.

• Committed to IU on July 12 and remained a Hoosier despite his primary recruiter, tight ends coach James Patton, being relieved of his duties by the school.

Recruiter of record:

Former tight ends coach James Patton.

Quotable:

“As a receiver, when he gets going – he’s worked on his speed, he’s worked on his takeoffs but he’s always been one of those kids that, I don’t care what his 40 time is, tracking him down in the open field after he gets going is very difficult. He covers a lot of ground very quickly.” – Lizton head coach Chris Coll.

Scouting Report:

• Versatile enough to play both tight end and defensive end.

• Plays faster than his self-reported 40-time would indicate.

• Being a two-sport athlete – Hendershot also played athlete – aids explosiveness and leaping ability.

2017 projection:

With all six tight ends returning, Indiana has plenty of depth at the position. On top of that, all of them have more size in terms of weight. Coll said before the season that Hendershot hadn’t spent much time blocking as an attached tight end, and that’s something that will have to continue to improve even after focusing it on during his senior year. New offensive coordinator Mike DeBord will also coach Indiana’s tight ends, and how that position gets used in DeBord and Allen’s new offensive scheme remains to be seen. Given the depth and experience ahead of him, Hendershot is a likely redshirt candidate this fall.
