Bowl game last year?: Indiana lost to Duke in the Pinstripe Bowl 44-41 in overtime. Utah defeated BYU 35-28 in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Why should I watch this game?
Chances are, if you're on this site, you're already an Indiana Hoosier fan. So you haven't managed to see your school play in all that many bowl games.
The Hoosiers are in back-to-back bowls for the first time since 1990-91 and the third time in school history (1986-87, 1987-88, 1990-91), while making their 11th overall appearance. The school is 3-7 in previous bowl games, including last season's loss to Duke in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Indiana is playing in the state of California for just the sixth time. One of those times was the 1979 Holiday Bowl, which the Hoosiers won 38-37 over then-No. 9 BYU. So fans in the Golden State may not see IU for a while if they don't take advantage now.
It's also new head coach Tom Allen's first game as a college head coach. He took over the program Dec. 1 shortly after Kevin Wilson resigned from his coaching duties for reasons still not entirely clear.
Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is no stranger to coaching in the postseason. In his 12th year as Utah's head coach, he's already led the Utes to 10 previous bowl appearances. They've lost just once, equating to a .900 winning percentage that ranks No. 1 all-time.
