Mike Woodson and Indiana have filled a hole in their roster, adding 6'9" 240 lb center Payton Sparks out of the transfer portal from Ball State.
Sparks was the 51st-ranked rebounder in the country after last season, an area in which the Hoosiers greatly struggled ultimately leading to their elimination from the NCAA Tournament.
Sparks will slide in and add to Indiana's depth at center alongside Malik Reneau.
The Winchester, IN native, averaged 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds a game last season. He plays a very aggressive post offense and also had some serious struggles from the free throw line shooting only 52.2%.
Sparks flirted with the portal last season after the coaching change at Ball State which saw former Indiana player Michael Lewis take over. He ultimately stayed but entered the portal this past weekend after his second season is Muncie.
Look for Indiana's portal interests to largely consist of wings and guards going forward. Reneau, Geronimo and Sparks should be enough to plug up the post for Indiana this upcoming season.
Sparks has two years of eligibility remaining.
