Alexis Gassion's professional career will begin in Finland.

The recently graduated 5-foot-11 guard has signed a contract with Kouvottaret of Finland’s Korisliga league. Kouvottaret is geographically located in Kouvola, Finland, which is in the southern part of the country

Kouvottaret finished in sixth out of 10 teams last season with a 12-13 overall record. Their season will begin around October.

“I am extremely excited to continue my professional career overseas in Finland,” Gassion said in a statement released by IU. “I would like to thank my family and coaches who have gotten me to this point and can’t wait to experience a new level of competition.”

A lockdown defender on the wing, Gassion averaged 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game as a senior. She was named to the Big Ten's All-Defensive Team and was regularly one of the most productive players on the roster each of the last four seasons.

She joins 2013 graduate Aulani Sinclair and 2011-13 Hoosier Linda Rubene as Hoosier representatives at the professional level. Both play in Europe.

“We want to congratulate Alexis on continuing her basketball career overseas,” IU coach Teri Moren said in a statement. “She has worked extremely hard especially in the last season to elevate her game and is being rewarded for her accomplishments. We want her to know that her Hoosier family is rooting for her every step of the way.”
