Tyra Buss, Amanda Cahill and Alexis Gassion combined to make sure IU women's basketball was well represented on the list of Big Ten accolades, as announced by the conference Monday.
Buss, a junior point guard, was named First-Team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and the media, marking back-to-back seasons that she earned the distinction. She led the Hoosiers with 18.6 points and 4.9 assists per game. She also grabbed 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals per contest.
Cahill, a junior forward, earned All-Big Ten Second Team recognition after averaging 15 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She also earned the same recognition a year ago as a sophomore.
Gassion, a senior wing, was named to the Big Ten's All-Defensive Team for her work throughout the season. Each game, IU head coach Teri Moren tasked Gassion with defending the opposing team's top guard, and she answered the call well enough to be the first Hoosier to earn a spot on the five-member team since 2009.
Gassion was also named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. She averaged 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in what was the best season of her career to date.
Indiana (20-9, 10-6) is set to play the winner of No. 5 Purdue vs. No. 12 Illinois or No. 13 Nebraska at around 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
Should the Hoosiers win, they may wind up playing Big Ten Player of the Year Kelsey Mitchell and the Ohio State Buckeyes in the semifinals.
