Tegray Scales is an All-American.
The junior linebacker was named to the Second-Team of Sports Illustrated's 2016 All-American squad Thursday. In doing so, he became the first IU linebacker to earn All-American status since Van Waiters was named to the third-team in 1987.
Scales, a Cincinnati native, leads the nation with 87 solo tackles and is tied for 17th nationally with 116 tackles. The latter mark leads the Big Ten. His 20.5 tackles for loss, five of which were sacks, ranks third in a single-season in program history and puts him a tie for fourth nationally.
Scales has been as consistent as they come, stringing together eight double-figure tackle games. That ranks tops in the Big Ten and second in the nation. Six of those games came in a row.
He also has one forced fumble and an interception return for a score.
The honor continues a trend of All-Americans at Indiana. He joins Dan Feeney, Jason Spriggs (both 2015) and Tevin Coleman (2014) to be named an All-American in the last three seasons alone.
