The recruitment of a top 2018 IU target is finally over.

ESPN.com reports Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy five-star point guard Darius Garland committed to Vanderbilt on Monday, choosing the Commodores over Indiana, UCLA and Kentucky.

"This was the best fit for me and my family," Garland told ESPN. "I can have the best of both worlds in academics and basketball at Vanderbilt.

"Someday the ball will stop bouncing and I want to prepare myself for that situation. My family put me in position to be successful so I want them to see me play as much as possible.

"I want to help change the culture at Vandy. We can be a strong basketball program and a top school."

Garland took official visits to all four of those schools. His visit to IU was the same weekend as Hoosier Hysteria.

IU's 2018 recruiting class still checks in at No. 15 nationally in the Rivals.com rankings. The Hoosiers have commitments from four different prospects, including one at the same position as Garland in Lafayette (Ind.) McCutcheon four-star point guard Rob Phinisee.

Garland was tabbed a fourth team All-American by Maxpreps.com after averaging 23.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last year, leading Brentwood Academy to a 30-2 overall record, Tennessee's Division II Class AA state title and a No. 10 national ranking.

He also averaged a team-high 16.8 points and 5.5 assists per game through the two spring live periods for Bradley Beal Elite on Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League circuit, then averaged 16.8 points and 2.2 assists per contest this July at the Nike Peach Jam.
