Indiana is in the market for a new safeties coach.

Citing a source familiar with the decision, NJ.com's Keith Sargent reported late Thursday night Rutgers had hired IU safeties coach Noah Joseph as its defensive backs coach. TheHoosier.com can confirm Joseph is indeed no longer with the Hoosier football program and that a national search for his replacement is underway.

Joseph and Rutgers head coach Chris Ash have a long-standing relationship, with Joseph having played for Ash at Drake in 1998 and also serving as a graduate assistant for Ash at Drake and Iowa State in the early 2000s.

In his four seasons at Indiana, Joseph helped the Hoosiers go from the No. 80 and 89 passing efficiency defense nationally in 2014 and 2015 respectively to No. 24 and No. 50 in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

When IU defensive coordinator Tom Allen arrived with a 4-2-5 scheme in 2016, Joseph was primarily tasked with mentoring IU's safeties and huskies - the husky being a hybrid safety/linebacker position in the Hoosiers' secondary. He was also key to IU's recruiting efforts as its defensive recruiting coordinator.
