LAS VEGAS – 2018 four-star combo guard Tyler Herro said Indiana is among the schools he’s hearing from the most.
“They send me personal letters and I get one almost every day,” Herro said. “June 15, that was the first day coaches can contact me and [IU] Coach [Tom] Crean was one of the first coaches to contact me, which was cool.”
In addition to Indiana, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound Herro is also talking often with Wisconsin, Marquette, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Arizona, Virginia, Iowa State and Boston College – all of which have offered the No. 80 junior in the country.
Herro recently completed his AAU season playing for Wisconsin Playground Warriors on the adidas Gauntlet circuit, averaging a double-double of 27.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game during the final July evaluation period from July 20-24.
Though his team wrapped up its season, he continued to play after getting an another opportunity through adidas. Herro was also invited to play in adidas Nations in Los Angeles, where he averaged 8.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game across five games.
The rising junior has no plans to narrow down his list anytime soon. However, he did talk about what stands out to him about Indiana, particularly the player development.
“Coach Crean, he’s great at getting guards to the next level, whether it’s overseas or the NBA,” Herro said.
The opportunity to play in the basketball-crazed state of Indiana appeals to him.
"That's like the Godfather of basketball there," Herro. "Being able to hoop at Indiana would be something special."
Herro does not have any visits planned at the moment, but planned to talk after the final July evaluation period with the coaching staffs of the programs interested in him about possible visits in August or attending football games in the fall.
