Former Indiana basketball standout forward Thomas Bryant has reached an agreement to return to the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant will be given the opportunity to win the starting center position, Yahoo! Sports basketball insider Chris Haynes reported.

Bryant made his NBA debut with the Lakers back in 2017.

After being selected in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft, Bryant played one season for the Lakers before his next four years in Washington.

Bryant was averaging a career high 14.3 points per game in 2020-21 before suffering a torn ACL. He returned last season and averaged 7.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in 27 games.

After averaging just 1.5 points in 15 games his rookie season, Bryant exploded for the Wizards in his first year with the organization, averaging 10.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He also shot 61.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three. The Wizards then signed him to a three-year and $25 million deal.

Bryant averaged 11.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in 155 career games over four years in Washington.

Bryant's deal with the Lakers is a one-year deal expected to be worth $2.1 million.

Bryant played 69 games at Indiana in two seasons where he averaged 12.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and shot 59.2 percent from the floor.

He received All-Big Ten Third Team honors both of his seasons and was also part of the All-Big Ten Freshman team following his first season in Bloomington.
