Zeller, Hulls named Academic All-Americans

For only the second time in program history, Indiana has two Academic All-Americans on the same basketball team.
Sophomore Cody Zeller and senior Jordan Hulls have been named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men's Basketball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Indiana is the only school with multiple players honored.
Zeller was named to the Academic All-American first team, Hulls to the second. The two Indiana Mr. Basketball winners are the 10th and 11th Indiana University basketball players to be named Academic All-American. All together, Indiana has had 15 Academic All-American selections, counting players who received the honor multiple times.
The only other time IU had two Academic All-Americans on one team was 1965, when Dick and Tom Van Arsdale both were honored.
To earn the honor, a player must be playing a significant role on his team and have outstanding academic credentials.
"I believe Cody and Jordan represent exactly what we expect an Indiana basketball player to embody," IU Coach Tom Crean said. "I think their achievement academically is direct proportion to the success they are having on the court. You can't have one without the other. They are outstanding young men."
Hulls (Bloomington South) and Zeller (Washington) both were Indiana Mr. Basketball coming out of high school.
Hulls graduated last May with a degree in exercise science. He is pursuing a graduate degree in athletic administration and has a 3.49 grade point average. The senior guard is averaging 10.8 points per game and is second on the school's all-time 3-pointers made list with 240. Hulls is third in the Big Ten in assist-to-turnover radio and has scored 1,261 career points, 29th all-time at Indiana.
Zeller is a business major with a 3.44 grade point average and is the only sophomore on the Academic All-America team. A junior academically, Zeller is studying at the Kelly School of Business.
The 7-foot sophomore is averaging 16.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and is ninth in the country in field goal percentage (59.8).
The younger brother of Tyler Zeller, the 2011-12 Academic All-American of the Year, Zeller also has surpassed 1,000 career points.
Zeller is also a candidate for every major national Player of the Year award.
