When members of Indiana's coaching staff asked three-star Jacolby Hewitt if he had a Power Five offer yet, he told them he didn't but was working toward one.

Indiana came through for him, extending a scholarship offer late last month.

"I was surprised but also really happy," Hewitt said. "It's my first legit offer from a big school in the Big Ten. I love the Big Ten, so that was awesome."

IU recruiting staff member Matt Wilson was the first to touch base with Hewitt, a native of Cordova, Tennessee, but Wilson later passed recruiting duties off to linebackers coach William Inge.

Indiana likes Hewitt at receiver, where he ranks No. 26 in the state of Tennessee. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect caught 33 passes for 694 yards and seven touchdowns over 10 games as a junior and says he takes pride in being a physical, do-it-all receiver.

"Whatever you need me to do, I'll do it," Hewitt said.

Despite being a fan of the Big Ten, Hewitt said he didn't know all that much about Indiana before the coaches began to reach out. He said he's impressed with their recent track record of having an explosive offense but is eager to learn more about the Hoosiers.

In his mind, Hewitt already has what he's looking for figured out.

"I want family and fit. Those are my two favorite words to say," he said. "I've got to feel comfortable enough to showcase my talent and my personality. That goes a long way for me."

Hewitt started playing football as a little kid after his mother told him one day that he needed to "go outside and play football or something." The only problem was, at the time, Hewitt didn't have a football to play with.

He and his mother made their way to the store and purchased a Nerf Football for him to play with in the backyard. He quickly fell in love with the game and has been playing it since.

As it stands, Hewitt has offers from Austin Peay and Memphis. He recently took a visit to Kentucky and has additional interest from the likes of Arkansas, Michigan State, Purdue and Tennessee.

Hewitt said he plans to visit Bloomington when he can and that he's keeping all of his options open.

"The recruitment has its good days and bad days," he said. "There's times where you're talking to a coach all day and you feel good about them but then don't hear from them for a long time. Then you've got guys you feel like you have a real connection with. You just have to manage it all."
