Notes

• Arguably the most experienced Indiana team in head coach Chris Lemonis' tenure with the program, the Hoosiers return all three of their weekend starters and have already set two of them up for the first two games of the 2018 season. They also return 62 percent of their runs, 62 percent of their hits, 61 percent of their RBI and 59 percent of their extra-base hits from a year ago.

• The uncertainty, however, is who will be batting leadoff, who will play second base and how first-year players will impact IU.

• JUCO transfer Logan Kaletha, a junior infielder, appears to be the pick for the leadoff spot. Junior utility Matt Lloyd said Kaletha "has been an absolute hit machine" so far and Lemonis echoed those sentiments in the preview press conference Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore outfielder Matt Gorski and senior infielder Laren Eustace could also get the nod there, according to Lemonis.

• At second, Lemonis said Indiana could send out either Lloyd, senior infielder Colby Stratten or JUCO transfer infielder Cade Bunnell. Freshmen infielders Justin Walker and Cole Barr also have the ability to play second.

• Between Kaletha and Bunnell's projected involvement, newcomers will have major roles with the program early on.

• Indiana will face three preseason All-Americans in four days. Oklahoma outfielder Steele Walker, South Alabama outfielder Travis Swaggerty and Coastal Carolina first baseman Kevin Woodall were all recognized as such by College Baseball Newspaper, who slotted Walker and Swaggerty on its third team and Woodall on its second team.

• Oklahoma ranked 33rd nationally with a 97.8 fielding percentage in 2017.

• Kansas State had the nation's 66th-best on-base percentage last year at 37.7.

• South Alabama had one of the strongest offensives in college baseball last season, tied with Western Carolina for 26th nationally with a .304 batting average in 2017.

• Coastal Carolina also brings a loaded offense to this weekend's event, having ranked in the Top 50 nationally in home runs per game, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, scoring and stolen bases per game last season.
