Cam Jones wasted little time finding the right school for his football playing career.
After talking with Indiana's coaching staff for about one month, Jones committed to IU late Sunday afternoon. The Cordova, Tennessee, native is projected to play receiver at the next level.
"Everything about it just felt right," Jones said of his commitment. "Indiana's where I felt at home."
Jones picked Indiana over offers from the likes of Tennessee, Wake Forest, Memphis and Middle Tennessee. He said the Volunteers were the strongest competitor but that his visit to Bloomington in late February sealed the deal.
"My family and I talked about Indiana after the visit and the more we talked about it, the more we thought it fit my future," Jones said. "It felt like the right thing to do."
Jones committed to Indiana over the phone with head coach Tom Allen and receivers coach Grant Heard listening in. Both men were hands on throughout Jones's recruitment from start to finish.
Allen told Jones he wanted him to be a part of the building process at Indiana. The sooner he could commit, the sooner they could build a recruiting class around him and the other two 2018 commits Jordan Jusevitch and Elijah Rodgers.
"I like the building process," Jones said. "I know they've got a lot going on. I know Coach Heard and Coach Allen are going to look out for me, and I'm excited to play under them."
The list of positions Jones hasn't played is nearly shorter than the list of spots he has at Saint Benedict High School as he enters his senior season.
As a freshman, Jones lined up at corner. He moved to safety and receiver as a sophomore but then got put onto the defensive line as an undersized defensive end as a junior to go along with snaps at quarterback and receiver.
The Hoosiers plan to put Jones on the outside to make catches, but he said he's open to anything.
"I've kind of been all over," he said. "I'll go wherever the coaches want me."
Jones is leaning towards studying physical therapy at Indiana and says he likes his options for studying. Now that he's got his commitment out of the way he said he's looking forward to whatever comes next.
"It's good to be committed," he said.
