Indiana Crushes Three Homers In Victory Over Florida Atlantic
Indiana cranked out three homers and rode steady arms in an 8-4 victory over Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida, Friday in the first of a three-game series.
After manufacturing a couple of runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead that became 2-1 in the bottom of the frame, senior outfielder Craig Dedelow cracked a two-run shot in the third before sophomore catcher Ryan Fineman added a solo shot in the fifth to take Owls starter Alex House out of the game having allowed five runs, four earned, over five innings. Then senior infielder Austin Cangelosi did the same in the sixth to welcome in the FAU bullpen.
Sophomore starting pitcher Jonathan Stiever went six innings, giving up two hits and a pair of earned runs in the victory. Freshman Cal Krueger went two innings in relief without giving up a run before Junior Kade Kryzsko gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth before getting out of the game.
The latter two pitchers mentioned are critical because neither is Luke Stephenson or Pauly Milto, the two guys at the back end of the pen who IU expects to lean on throughout the season. That'll mean their fresh for games two and three.
IU (3-2) is expected to start sophomore southpaw Tim Herrin (1-0, 0.00 ERA) against FAU (3-1) junior lefty Jake Miednik (1-0, 0.00 ERA) on Saturday in game two. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
