Each week, TheHoosier.com will be checking in to see how former IU athletes are doing in the pros. This week, we've got updates from the NFL, Major League Baseball (MLB) and Minor League Baseball.

NFL

• Former IU running back Jordan Howard finished with 13 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown and three receptions for 14 yards for the Chicago Bears in their 23-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

• In the same game, former IU All-American running back Tevin Coleman had eight carries for 16 yards and four receptions for 42 yards for the Falcons.

• Former IU All-American right guard Dan Feeney mostly saw time blocking for the field goal unit for the Los Angeles Chargers in their 24-21 loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.

• In the same game, former IU wide receiver Cody Latimer had a 36-yard kickoff return for the Broncos.

• Former IU left guard Rodger Saffold helped the Los Angeles Rams pile up 373 total yards of offense in their 46-9 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

• Former IU All-American left tackle Jason Spriggs sustained an injured hamstring in the Green Bay Packers' 17-9 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Spriggs' status for the Packers and their upcoming Sunday contest against the Falcons remains up in the air.

• Former IU defensive tackle Darius Latham did not record any stats for the Oakland Raiders in their 26-16 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

MLB

• Former IU catcher Kyle Schwarber hit .200 with one home run and one RBI for the Chicago Cubs in back-to-back wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates and a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

• Former IU catcher Josh Phegley hit .205 with an RBI double for the Oakland Athletics in an 11-1 win over the Houston Astros on Sept. 9.

• Former IU infielder Micah Johnson went hitless for the Atlanta Braves in a loss to the Texas Rangers and three straight wins over the Miami Marlins.

• Former IU third baseman Sam Travis hit .200 for the Boston Red Sox in two wins over and a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

• Former IU pitcher Aaron Slegers struck out three but gave up five earned runs off five hits in four innings of a start for the Minnesota Twins in their 10-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sept. 9.

Minor League Baseball

• Former IU first baseman Kevin Mahar, now the bench coach for the Dayton Dragons, the Class A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, and the Dragons advanced to the Midwest League semifinals before falling to the Fort Wayne Tin Caps 2-1 in the best of three series.

• Former IU pitcher Scott Effross did not pitch for the Myrle Beach Pelicans - the Advanced-Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs - in their 2-0 series sweep loss to the Down East Wood Ducks in the Carolina League playoff semifinals.

• Former IU pitcher Christian Morris did not pitch for the Charleston RiverDogs - the Class A Short Season affiliate of the New York Yankees - in their 2-1 best-of-three semifinals loss to the Greenville Drive in the Carolina League playoffs.

• Former IU pitcher Joey DeNato did not pitch for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs - the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies - in their 3-1 semifinals loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the International League playoffs.
