Archie Miller Finalizes Schedule To Meet With IU Signees

Indiana fans will soon get some clarity on the future of the team's three senior signees.

New head coach Archie Miller is schedule to meet with Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson four-star forward Justin Smith and his family on Thursday, Lilburn (Ga.) Berkmar guard Al Durham on Friday and Hatboro (Pa.) Hatboro-Horsham four-star forward Clifton Moore on Sunday, per various sources.

Both Durham and Moore initially asked for a release from their NLI's following the departure of former head coach Tom Crean. Smith, however, has yet to request a release.

Durham and Moore asked for those releases just over roughly two weeks ago. A school has 30 days from the date it is asked for to respond to the request, and they can choose to grant the release, not grant a release, or simply remove the recruiting ban to allow them to be recruited.

When a head coach departs the program, usually a new head coach is hired and they then talk with the signees before any additional steps like granting a release are taken. So Miller meeting with the signees now is a natural progress of events.

If following these meetings IU does grant Durham or Moore a complete release from their NLI's, the penalty of sitting out a year of competition is waived. If they do not grant the release, they can still transfer schools, but they would have to sit out a year and would lose a season of eligibility.

"For me I want my opportunity," Miller said last week on the Dan Dakich show. "I want my opportunity to have the chance to sit in front of them and bring my vision for them in the same sort of landscape at Indiana.

"My job right now is to bring them here. If they don't want to, then we won't hold them against their will. There's nothing I would ever to do hold someone who wouldn't want to be here."

Durham verbally committed to Indiana on Oct. 26, 2015, a day after he returned home from his campus visit for Hoosier Hysteria. He picked the Hoosiers over early offers from Miami, Virginia Tech and South Florida among others. The 6-4, 175-pound three-star guard averaged over 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists a game as a senior.

Smith was named first team all-state as a junior and second team as a senior after averaging roughly 23 points, 10 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. He picked the Hoosiers over early offers from Wisconsin, Stanford and Illinois among others, and took an official visit to Villanova before making his choice. The 6-6, 200-pound four-star forward is ranked as the No. 107 player nationally.

Moore committed to the Hoosiers over offers from Ole Miss, St. Joseph's, St. John's, Temple and Northwestern, plus interest from Villanova among others. The 6-10, 195-pound forward is ranked as the No. 126 player nationally.
