3-Star Cornerback Quran Hafiz Commits To The Hoosiers

Quran Hafiz kept people guessing where he was going to commit right up until the point he put on an Iowa State Cyclones cap at his commitment ceremony at Dick's Wings and Grill in Jacksonville, Florida.

And even then, it wasn't exactly final.

Hafiz, a three-star cornerback, donned an Iowa State cap over an Indiana hat. Much to the pleasure of family and friends in attendance, he took off the Cyclones hat to reveal the Hoosier cap before signing his scholarship papers to finalize his commitment and proceeding early enrollment at IU.

Hafiz, who stands at 6-foot and weighs 170 pounds, committed to Iowa State on July 1. but reopened his recruitment Sept. 19. He visited Bloomington earlier in the fall to watch IU upset then-No. 17 Michigan State and said he walked away impressed with the atmosphere surrounding the program.

IU safeties coach Noah Joseph and cornerbacks coach Brandon Shelby teamed in leading his recruitment. He was vocal in showing his support of new head coach Tom Allen when news broke of his hiring.

Hafiz's commitment continues a heavy load of defensive players in the 2017 class. Of the 18 commits, 12 of them play on the defensive side of the ball, including JUCO linebacker Mike McGinnis, who committed to IU Sunday.

The weekend of Sept. 2, Hafiz took an official visit to Minnesota. On that same weekend, 10 Minnesota football players and a recruit reportedly were involved in sexual misconduct. The recruit is unnamed.
