Freshman Williams suffers hand injury

Indiana freshman Troy Williams will miss the next few weeks of workouts due to an injury to his right (shooting) hand, IU said this afternoon.

The injury occurred during a workout, IU said.

If it is a few weeks, it means Williams likely will not be playing in Hoosier Hysteria, which is Oct. 4.

Williams is the second-highest ranked player among the Indiana freshman. The 6-foot-7 forward was ranked 47th in the 2013 Rivals150.

"Troy has been rising in all areas of his game," Indiana coach Tom Crean said. "While this is a setback, it is a minor one in the scheme of things."

Williams was the leading scorer (16.2 points) for storied Oak Hill Academy as a senior as Oak Hill went 34-5. He also averaged 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 blocks as a senior, compiling nine double-doubles.

Williams has been progressing well throughout summer workouts.

Williams was named MVP of the Derby Festival Classic and also played in the Jordan Brand Classic.
