Report: Former IU player Neil Reed dies

Former Indiana basketball player Neil Reed has died of a heart attack, according to a report by ESPN's Chris Palmer tonight.

Reed was 37.

No futher details were immediately available.

Reed played at Indiana from 1994-97 but transferred to Southern Mississippi prior to his senior season.

Three years later, the infamous video surfaced showing coach Bob Knight grabbing Reed around the neck, and Reed went on national television claiming he was choked by Knight.

Reed scored 920 points in his career at Indiana and entering last season was 48th on IU's all-time scoring list. He led IU in 3-point percentage in 1995-96 and 1996-97.

He started 86 Big Ten games, which was 10th all-time at IU entering this past season.
Reed led IU in assists in 1995-96, averaging 4.4 over 31 games. He had eight 3-pointers in a memorable game against Michigan in 1996.

After graduating from Southern Mississippi, Reed earned a master's degree. Reed was an intern at ESPN The Magazine and, as of 2009, was coaching high school basketball in California.
