IU recruits on the tube
Want to get an early idea on who will be playing the center spot for Indiana the next few years? You can get a peek into the future tonight and tomorrow night thanks to pair of high school basketball events being shown on the ESPN family of networks.
The coverage starts tonight at 8 pm when ESPN broadcasts the annual McDonald's All-American game from Chicago's United Center. The girls game is set to tip at 7:30 pm ET (ESPNU) and the boys game is scheduled for 10:00 pm ET this evening on ESPN. 6-foot-11 Indiana signee Cody Zeller will suit up for the West team. He'll be joined by Hoosier natives Branden Dawson (Michigan State) and Marquis Teague (Kentucky).
Another future Hoosier big man is on ESPNU tomorrow (Thursday) evening. That's because that network is broadcasting the ESPN RISE National High School Invitational. 6-foot-11 Indiana commit Peter Jurkin and his United Faith Christian Academy (UFCA) are the #7 seed for the eight team event and will face #2 seed Oak Hill Academy. Playing center this year for the Virginia prep power has been 6-foot-11 junior A.J. Hammons, a former member of the Carmel High team in Indiana. Those two have battled before and the match-up should be great viewing. Jurkin has been sidelined much of the season by a shin injury but is set to go tomorrow night.
This quarterfinal match-up is set to be broadcast at 8 p.m. The winner will move on to the semifinals against the survivor of Findlay Prep and Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, Fl). That game will be shown on ESPN2 this Friday at 5:30 pm. Click here for complete television schedule for the tournament. If you cannot watch the games on your television, the tournament is being webcast on ESPN3.
The games are being played in the Washington DC area at Georgetown Prep in North Bethesda, Maryland.
