Can Thomas Be the Immediate Fix for Sooners?



With recent news that Oklahoma's junior safety, Tony Jefferson will be entering the 2013 NFL draft along with the fact that the Sooners will also be losing their other starter at safety Javon Harris to graduation, the need for depth and play makers is as obvious as it is pressing.

Ahmad Thomas, three-star safety out of Miami (Fla.) Central committed to Oklahoma back in May and could be just what the Sooners and defensive coordinator Mike Stoops need to step in and play right away with the skill set he possesses. The 6-foot-1 and 199-pound prospect is a physical safety that plays the run really well but also has the ability to cover.

Miami Central recently won their second state championship in the last three years when they beat Gainesville 37-14 in the Florida 6A State Championship game in December. Playing for a winning program in high school is something that Thomas wants to continue at the next level, which led to him wanting to wear the Crimson and Cream.

"I like the fact that they like to win," Thomas said about why he chose Oklahoma. "Not only do they like good athletes but they like athletes with good character who do their work. They don't want bad kids and I think I am one of those (good character) kids."
