Nine scholarships for Smith
Rashawn Smith thought as a sophomore that his future was on the basketball court and did not play football.
But after revaluating things on the gridiron he decided to come back out last fall and now the Florence, Ala., linebacker has nine scholarship offers to show for his efforts.
"This is a blessing," Smith said. "At the start of my 10th grade year I didn't want to play. I didn't think football was my sport. But I came back and all of this has come in a matter of seven games."
Smith impressed the coaches at Arkansas, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tulane and Vanderbilt enough during his junior season to earn scholarships from each.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is spending his summer attending camps hoping to improve his game before the 2012 season starts.
"I'm always wanting to get better at something," Smith said. "I take these (camps) as a way to get better, learn new things and apply them to my game.
Smith's schedule has been quite hectic trying to juggle both his football and basketball schedule.
